Adobe + Macromedia = ???   Adobe buys Macromedia
May 3, 2005

Yes you read that correctly. Macromedia has been taken over by one of its major rivals. For those who oppose monopolies this is a worrying move. Just a few months ago, Macromedia joined forces with Yahoo. Purists were outraged to find that the Yahoo toolbar appeared to be bundled with the latest Flash Player. Macrodmedia quickly clarified that this was merely an option and that "the Yahoo! Toolbar and Flash Player are distinct software products and are not functionally merged in any way."

Now that Adobe has purchased Macromedia, many of us are waiting to see what changes will be made to the different Macromedia products. For Flash users it is our hope that this won't affect us too much. Flash has become an integral part of web design and online marketing on the world wide web and we suspect that Adobe will embrace Flash and continue marketing it as is.

The future of Dreamweaver (website editor) is not necessarily as certain. Macromedia's Dreamweaver has become an industry standard and made inserting Flash movies as easy as clicking a button. Adobe has never lost hope for it's website editor, GoLive. Will a morphed version become the new website editor software or will Dreamweaver disappear?

The news of this merger raises more questions than answers. Only one thing is certain in the doggy dog world of software technology: nothing is really certain afterall.
